Vidhan Soudha is that one place which should be on your list to visit while in Bangalore. Spread over an area of more than 60 Acres, it houses the legislature and the Secretariat of the state of Karnataka. It also proudly boasts the title of being the largest state legislative building in the country.
With four entrances in all four directions and four floors above the ground level and one below it, we surely don't doubt the title. Kengal Hanumanthaiah, and a total of around 18 million rupees were invested in the same. It houses 22 department of the state and a total of 300 rooms are present inside the building.
Architecture of Vidhan Soudha
The assembly is a beautiful amalgamation of the British, Indo-Islamic and Dravidian style of architecture. The building is beautifully topped with a dome, having a diameter of 60 ft., which is in turn, supported by 8 pillars.There are six other small domes, four in the front and 2 at the sides. The front side of the building carries the Inscription of the words "Government work is God's work", in both Kannada and English.
The grand staircase is one of the major highlights of the buildings, with about 45 steps, having a width of 204 feet and depth of 70 feet deep, giving a direct access to the foyer on the first floor.
