Located 22 km away from Bangalore, the Bannerghatta National Park is an asylum for a large variety of flora and fauna. Spread over a massive area of around 104.27 sq. km, this national park was established in the year 1971. The park itself has a number of establishments within its confines, which includes the country's first butterfly park as well.
Forest Division, an aquarium, a zoo, Children's park, Crocodile Farm, Snake Park, Prehistoric Animals' Park and a museum. What's more, you can get up close and personal with the wondrous wildlife here by the means of a jungle safari, which is a popular activity to pursue here.
Nature lovers and photographers are surely in for a treat in the Bannerghatta National Park. The assorted collection of wildlife here includes elephants, leopards, jackal, fox, wild boar, sloth bear, India gazelle, spotted deer, porcupine, Asiatic Lion, Royal Bengal Tiger, monitor lizard and cobras.
In addition to being a natural retreat, the park is also an unlikely destination for a wide variety of adventure sports such as trekking and hiking. All in all, Bannerghatta is a wonderful rendezvous with nature in its most unadulterated form.
Jungle Safari in Bannerghatta
The Grand Safari is 8 kilometres long one way, while Tiger and Lion Safari is around 11 km (to and fro). You can also choose from the options available such as the Zoo & Lion-tiger safari, Zoo & Grand Safari or Zoo only. On weekends tickets get sold out quickly, so it is advised to reach the park before 2:00 PM
LION SAFARI
Further a big moat all round the chain link mesh fence has been created to avoid the tress pass of any wild animals living in the area. The animal house is provided with 11 holding rooms and all the 11 holding rooms are provided with retrieval area for the day time rest.
The identified groups of animals are only allowed into safari on a rotational basis regularly for the benefit of visiting tourists.
Presently there are 19 lions (10 male and 9 females) are housed in lion safari

BUTTERFLY PARK
The construction work initiated in 2003 was completed during 2007 and opened to the public for visitation. It is the unique project in the entire country and is serving as a role model in the nation, and most of the Zoos and parks interested to establish Butterfly Park are using this as knowledge hub and plan to replicate.

A study reported 48 species of butterflies in various seasons at Bannerghatta Biological Park. Thirty species of butterflies belong to five families viz., Papilionidae, Pieridae, Nympalidae, Lycaenide and Hespiridae were breeding in different seasons under captive conditions and released into the conservatory dome

Best time to visit Bannerghatta National Park
This park is open throughout the year and the normal temperature in Bannerghatta range from 15 to 35 degrees Celcius during the year, with an average rainfall of about 700mm annually. The best time to visit this park is during the months of November to June when the weather is cool and perfect and wildlife is easily spotted.
How to Reach Bannerghatta National Park
The Park is located 22km outside Bangalore City and can be easily reached using public transport. Take the city bus with the route numbers 365, 366 or G-4 (depending on route) which are available every 20 minutes.
For reaching the park, the nearest major landmark is Jayadeva Hospital/Mico checkpoint as it is the closest stop on the Ring road. The nearest railway station to Bannerghatta biological park is Bangalore Cy Jn Train Station which is 23 km away from Bannerghatta Biological Park.
