Harangi Dam


Harangi Dam is located near the small village of Hudgur in Koduku district of Karnataka. It is located 32 km from Coorg and is an attraction for the tourists visiting Coorg.

The dam is built across the river Harangi, which is a tributary of river Kaveri which flows through the major parts of Karnataka.

The construction of Harangi Dam started in 1970's and was opened for operation in the year 1982. The height of the dam 53 m and the boundary of the dam stretches for 845 m.

It is a large dam, the reservoir of the dam is spread across the area of 420 sq km.

Picnic spot

Harangi Dam also serves as an ideal picnic spot. The dam is surrounded by the well-manicured garden where you can enjoy your picnic while enjoying the view of the grand dam.


The park is adorned with a huge idol of Goddess Cauvery, an important deity for the local men.
There are two temples located inside the premises of the dam,

Chamundeshwari temple built across the reservoir is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The backwater streams of the dam create small islands laden with thin vegetation.

How to Reach Harangi Dam

Harangi Dam is located 32 km from Coorg. You can take a bus or hire a taxi from Coorg to reach the dam.

Tips

Carry food and drinks with you to the dam, as there are few eating joints around.
